Obituary for Daris Shatzer

Daris J. (Snowberger) Shatzer , 89, departed this life in Chambersburg Hospital on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Waynesboro Hospital on March 29, 1928 to the late Lottie Unger and later raised by her grandparents, the late Roy and Lydia (Maun) Unger. She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1946 where she enjoyed playing basketball on the girl's basketball team. Daris married the love of her life, John W. Shatzer on November 23, 1947. They enjoyed nearly 67 years of married life together. Daris enjoyed working on her family farm, gardening, flowers, and cooking. She was especially well known for her chocolate fudge and home made chicken corn soup. She was employed by Dice's Tire Shop as a bookkeeper for 30 years. Daris was a member of King Street UB Church for 70 years and a charter member of the Golden Link Sunday School Class. She was also a charter member of the Society of Farm Women, Group Number 7. Daris dearly loved her family. She is survived by her 4 children, Barbara Blubaugh and husband Robert, Joseph and wife Cathy, Thomas and wife Kimberly, all of Chambersburg, and David of Carlisle. Her beloved grandchildren include Lisa Danuser, Kristina Angelo, Wesley Shatzer, Jessica Spelas, Emily Hess, David Shatzer, Jennifer Shatzer, Sarah Sandrik, Jacob Shatzer, John Thomas (JT) Shatzer and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special fur baby Elizabeth. Her loving husband preceded her in death on February 23, 2015 as well as her only brother Richard Unger. A service to celebrate her life will be held at King Street UB Church 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 with the Reverends Paul B. Baker and Ron Cook officiating. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service, There will also be visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.on Friday March 30, 2018 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Memorial donations may be made to the Organ Fund c/o of King Street UB Church, 162 East King Street, Chambersburg, Pa 17201, American Cancer Society, or the Diabetes Association.
