Obituary for Betty Gift (Walck)

Betty Louise Gift, 92, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018. She was a resident of Menno Haven and formerly of N. Franklin Street for many years. Born May 20, 1925 in Chambersburg Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Esther (Saunders) Walck. Betty graduated in 1944 from CHS. She was a lifelong member of King Street United Brethren Church, treasurer for the Mustard Seed Sunday School Class, in charge of the Flower Committee, volunteered her time for Vacation Bible School and a member of the Buds of Promise Sunday School Class. She worked at the J.J. Newberry Co. in the forties and retired from the CHS cafeteria where she worked from 1965-1980. Betty enjoyed cooking for her family, especially baking mincemeat, pumpkin pies and angel food cake. She liked gardening, sewing, knitting, canning, painting, traveling in her motor home, babysitting her grandchildren, playing Bingo, board games, the piano and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. God gave her many talents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Gift, two brothers: Howard and Joseph Walck and a grandson, Kirk Bennett. Surviving are two daughters: Patricia Bennett (Larry), Carol S. Rock (Regis), son, Jeffrey Gift (Jeannine), three granddaughters: Susan Gipe (Darrell), Michelle Mills, Breanne Stickley (Jeremy); two grandsons: Michael Gift, Jason Rock (Kathryn); one great grandson, Christian Mill; two great granddaughters: Aubrey and Ryleigh. Betty will always be remembered for her strong faith in God, her contagious laughter, having a big heart and the love and joy that she gave so freely. With her beautiful smile, she never knew a stranger and the Spirit of God was always working through her and changed the lives of so many. She put everyone else before herself. We will always remember Betty for how she made us feel, such an amazing gift from God and a blessing to us all. Her door was always open with room for one more at the table. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave. with the Rev. Paul Baker officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. It was Betty's request that flowers be omitted and Memorial donations made to the Benevolent Fund at Menno Haven, Inc., 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
