Obituary for Lenora W. Deardorff (Witherspoon)

Lenora W. Deardorff, 99, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg. She was born May 17, 1918 in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late D. Erskine and Blanche (Small) Witherspoon. Lenora was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Chambersburg High School. A former employee of Letterkenny Army Depot, she retired from the Area Wage Tax Office in 1989. She enjoyed many years as a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Martha Custis Chapter #342, Order of the Eastern Star. Lenora will be lovingly remembered as a devoted, loving, caring and family-focused mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are two daughters, Marcia D. Shindler (Craig) and Patricia D. Ross (Ron); four grandchildren, Jaclyn Long (Fred), Meredith Meckley (Josh), Megan Slye (Jeff) and Matthew Ross (Julie); great-grandchildren, Lenora Long, Graham Meckley, Ryan Meckley, Elowen Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Deardorff; daughter, Victoria Deardorff; sister, Thelma Singer; twin sister, Louise Reichard; and brother, Erskine Witherspoon. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. William B. Nienstedt officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
