Obituary for Bertha E. Brown ("Betty" Hockensmith)
Bertha Eleanor "Betty" Brown,94, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Chambers Point. She was born, July 26, 1923 in Chambersburg, the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Anna (Johns) Hockensmith. She attended Chambersburg Area School District and was a member of Lurgan United Brethren Church where she sang in the choir and enjoy teaching Sunday school. She was also a member of AARP and NARFE For many years, she played on a bowling league, playing in tournaments and championships. Her hobbies include: flower gardening, crafts and sewing, she was an excellent seamstress, even making her own patterns of newspapers. For 15 years, Betty was the Avon lady, she worked at the Stanley Company as a seamstress for a few years and also at Knouse Foods during applesauce season. Her lifelong dream was to be a nurse and she was able to fulfill that dream by being the caregiver to her husband. Two thoughts that she lived by and left is a legacy to her friends and family: "Live every day as if it were your last-it just might be." and "Laughter is better than tears." She is survived by her children: Paul L. Brown (Arlene F.), Rosann G. Breon (Edward), Timothy W. Brown (Neri ), Teresa M. Bowers (Bradley Sr.); grandchildren: Trenton, Tanya, Corey, Chrystal, Jinky, Jeremiah, Janine, Joshua, Bradley E. Jr, Blaine; great grandchildren: Jamison, Roxanne, Lindsy, Victoria, Olivia, Shane, Shanice, Corey, Amber, Joey, Macey, Brittney, Brett, Brandie,Dakota, Breonna, Xzavior, Indie, Jordan; great great grandchildren: Rylan, Westin, Wesley, Myleigh, Bryce, Athanna, Samuel, Elias. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E Brown (December 27, 2005) and two brothers: Herbert H. Hockensmith Junior and Jerry Hockensmith. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
